Yoga with Friends

I recently realized that while I don't have a full time teaching job at a studio, I do have a deep love for yoga, lots of support from friends and family, and the convenience of many rehearsal studios to rent from. With that in mind, I decided (sparked by the wonderful Molly Keane-Dreyer) to teach some damn yoga.

I made a Facebook event and invited about 50 people, not wanting it to get too carried away on the off chance that everyone would show up (you know how that is.) On the days leading up to the class I just knew it was going to be a sweet, little, cozy turnout. I planned to book one of those warm up rooms to keep the atmosphere...well, warm and cozy. Lo and behold, four friends showed up and I was thrilled.

Despite starting a few minutes late, the crazy noise in the hallway, and the lack of mood lighting, it was a truly special class. I got the chance to share what I love to do with people who wanted to learn. I made them sweat, I made them laugh (I like to think), and I hope I made each of their weekends even a bit brighter. But then again, I'm just the vessel, it's the practice of yoga in all its forms that gives us the opportunity to connect with ourselves on a deep level and in turn, connect with the world around us.

It was awesome and I had so much fun. Even before the class ended, I decided this was going to be a thing. And Yoga with Friends was born. It's exciting because... well, duh, it's yoga, but even more because it's something I can call my own that brings me joy, and I hope it brings others joy as well.

First class ever with the lovely ladies, Alexa Lowis, Carina Cherbosque, Tessa Grady, Maddy Claire Parks, and myself!

So, if you want to expand your yoga practice, learn a crazy pose or two, try some pranayama (unrestraining of the breath), clear your mind of the city, take some quiet time to move, take some loud music time to move, or just want to pass out in savasana, please come join me. I promise to make you happy in some way, shape or form.
